What’s your strategy for avoiding burnout this holiday season? Here’s mine…
This question, posed by Kevin Edwards during our Real Leaders CEO Forum call this week, got me thinking. While not a traditional strategy, three guiding principles sprang to mind—Mindset, Meaning, and Moderation. These “3Ms” have become my go-to framework for staying grounded, balanced, and present during the holiday hustle.
Mindset: Focus on What Truly Matters
Start by prioritizing tasks that create leverage and drive you forward. The urgent often competes with the important, but having clarity on what matters most helps maintain focus. For me, three daily focus words—Inspire, Connect, Advance—simplify the chaos and keep me aligned with my goals. They act as a compass, helping me make decisions that align with my values and priorities.
Ask yourself: What are the few key actions that will make the biggest difference today? Let that clarity guide your efforts.
Meaning: Embrace the Significance of the Season
The holidays are a perfect time to reconnect with what’s meaningful in your life, both professionally and personally. Use this season to deepen relationships, express gratitude, and create lasting memories.
A simple practice that works for me is listing the people and moments I want to cherish. This small act makes it far more likely that I’ll prioritize these connections and experiences, instead of letting the busyness of the season take over.
How can you weave gratitude and intention into your holiday traditions?
Moderation: Find Balance Across Life’s Spheres
I’ll admit, I’m someone who can get carried away with excitement, whether it’s reconnecting with people during the holidays or diving into work that I love. That’s why I have to remind myself to set boundaries.
Moderation doesn’t mean saying “no” to everything; it means finding the right blend of energy across the areas of life that matter most this season. Whether it’s carving out time for loved ones, scaling back commitments, or simply taking a moment to breathe, intentional boundaries are key to harmony and well-being.
Consider where you might need to hit the brakes this season—and how that pause can recharge you for what matters most.
